Mimbre receives Compass Commission!

Mimbre receives Compass Commission!

Yesterday evening at Laurie Grove Studios in New Cross the Trinity Laban & Greenwich Dance Partnership announced the winners of their newly created Compass Commissions… and Mimbre was awarded one of the three commissions (from a total of 137 competing entries!) to develop a new production with the working title Bench

Kat Bridge, Interim Artistic Director at Greenwich Dance, said in her speech: “We were delighted by the rigour and vision of proposals and we look forward to working with these great artists to realise their ambitious performances. These clever and often dramatic pieces will intrigue and entertain audiences and we are confident they will become part of the lexicon of contemporary dance.” We are so very proud to be part of this exciting project!

Mimbre - Bench

Our new show Bench will be about the everyday dance of life, our urban landscape, and a cavalcade of characters that come and go; viewed through the eyes of a woman, who observes, makes friends, confronts or ignores the people who pass, occasionally turning upside down to see if the world looks better from that angle.

Lina Johansson, our Joint Artistic Director, is “very excited about the support from Trinity Laban and Greenwich Dance and to be connected to the exciting and interesting community of creatives connected with these two institutions”.

Each Compass Commissioned artist will receive financial support, performance opportunities at both Greenwich Dance and Laban Theatre as well as rehearsal space and production development support in the Laurie Grove Studios, which are being transformed into a new Performance Laboratory.

We can’t wait to start working on this new production in the autumn!
