18 Dec Professional development opportunities for aspiring circus performers
Mimbre are inviting applications from aspiring performers who are interested in joining our professional development programme. Traineeships are available for London-based 18-25 year olds, who are able to commit to our Acrobatics and Acrobalance Masterclass on 12 and 13 January, and regular training on Tuesday evenings between 15 January and end of April 2013.
Traineeship programme details:
Mimbre is establishing a framework to develop and train with aspiring 18-25 years old circus performers.
The traineeship will consist of regular training sessions, occasional masterclasses and any other relevant project or event that mimbre organise and are involved with during the year. This is not a formal nor a full-time programme, but a set of on-going opportunities to fit alongside other training or commitments. We are still developing ideas about how we best can support or mentor the right people, so this is a starting point rather than a set programme. The long-term idea is to develop a shared vocabulary with mimbre acrobats, opening up the possibility of working with us in the future.
We are looking for younger acrobats, gymnasts and/or dancers who are passionate about learning acrobatics and pair acrobatics, who have been involved in an artistic project or collaboration with a professional company in the last 12 months and who have the clear intention of developing more experience and skills to work professionally in this field. We are looking for performers based within Greater London boundaries.
Participants should be comfortable working with some of the following techniques: dynamic partner-work involving lifts, jumps and throws. Participants should also be comfortable working in inverted positions and taking weight on their arms (ie: headstands, handstands or similar techniques). Any extra experience in somersaults, banquine and tumbling is appreciated but not essential. We welcome participation from disabled or injured performers who want to explore alternative ways of approaching acrobatics.
The first masterclass will take place on the 12th and 13th January 2013 at the Roundhouse (Studio Theatre), 10-5pm. The regular training sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings at The Circus Space (7-9pm), starting on the 15th January until the end of April.
The participants will be responsible for the cost of the ACDC membership allowing them to access the space (£31.5 joining fee + £31.5 discounted fee for 15-sessions Carnet). Mimbre can help as references and with public liability insurance to open a membership. If you have difficulties with the cost please contact us.
