Mimbre is looking for a composer to complete the creative team for its upcoming show “If I could I would”. The composer would be working in partnership with the Artistic Director to compose a 30-40 minutes long musical score for the performance.

The show will be based around a series of sketches so we would want to work with a clear musical track per choreography. The music would help set the atmosphere of each sketch and different scenes. We would also want some soundscape to help bridge between different tracks and scenes.

We envisage the feeling of the soundtrack to be fairly electronic, with nods to superhero themes and films, but also help working with the contrast of the faster and the slower choreographies; and the humour versus the serious.

Timeline

“If I Could I would” is going to be produced across the spring of 2016, with 3 weeks of rehearsals starting from February 29th until 18th March. This initial rehearsal period is interrupted by Mimbre’s commitment to another production in April. Rehearsals for the show will resume in May – from the 3rd to 13th.

You would have to be available for some dates in March to come into rehearsals and interact with the performers and show. We will be elaborating most of the sketches, so this is a great time to come and experience what the show is about.  We would then expect musical proposals by beginning of May for the different scenes. During rehearsals in May we will work together to develop the music alongside the choreographies, into the final score.

Mimbre works in a very collaborative process. We would like the music to be inspired from the choreographies but also to influence the sketches themselves.

The show will be toured without a sound technician so ultimately, the music and choreographies need to have a precise fit, and there will be a fair amount of adjustments around length and structure of each piece in the last couple of weeks of rehearsals, to adjust the score ready for tour.

Fee

£3,000 – all recording and mixing costs are inclusive in the fee.

    Hello Jana,

    My question is:

    I’m not based in London, but I usually work in a telecommute mode. I could watch the rehearsals via skype, and interact with the performers remotely, may be an option?
    If so, I would send my application.

      Hey Leo,

      Thanks for your interest in the position. Unfortunately we are a very small company on a very small budget and cannot afford to offer relocation expenses or provide a work permit. All applicants need to have a UK work permit and commute to London at their own expense.
