31 Jul A new member of staff at Mimbre
It’s my first week as General Manager (Maternity Cover) at Mimbre and I’m delighted to join this inventive, inspiring, friendly company at an exciting stage of their development. With a busy Summer of touring underway, and plans for Autumn taking shape, it feels like a good time to join.
I was lucky to catch a performance of Falling Up at the Greenwich and Docklands festival in June. It wasn’t the sunniest day, but even with the threat of rain in the air, a large audience crowded around the quirky set. I enjoyed the way that each of the performers told their own story within the piece. I noticed a contrast between the individual narratives, which explored vulnerability and anxiety, and the strength which came from the combined pieces. I’m looking forward to seeing the piece again at the National Theatre (28/29 August), and seeing how it has developed after 2 months of touring.
I also joined the company for a day of outdoor activities as part of Big Dance Day on Kennaway Estate in Stoke Newington. I was amazed by the skill of the young performers – those kids know how to move! There was a lovely welcoming community feel from the moment that I walked on to the estate – so thanks very much to everyone who made me feel welcome. It felt good to get active and join in some of the moves, alongside toddlers, parents, and grandparents alike, even if my dance skills left much be desired…
Now it’s down to the hard graft of the office, but the memory of the live work still burns brightly, and the simple beauty of one body held aloft by another, is all the inspiration I need to get organised, get fundraising, and help to raise the profile of this fantastic company.
If you’d like to get in touch then don’t hesistate to contact me on info@mimbre.co.uk or 020 3095 9710.
Thanks, Charlotte
