Diving into the pain in acrobatics
Date and time:  Thursday, 23rd February 2023. 10:00-11:00 am GMT
Outline: This workshop will be delivered by a chartered physiotherapist and will give participants a better insight into the pain in the Circus Arts as well as possible ways to self-manage it.

About the presenter:
Bethany Shum is a chartered physiotherapist (HCPC MCSP) who is passionate about movements, flexibility, and pain science. She founded Flexibility Matters Physiotherapy to support performers with health education, flexibility training, and physiotherapy.

Professionally, she works as a Pain Specialist Physiotherapist in an NHS multidisciplinary team pain clinic. Outside of the NHS, she has personal and professional experience in gymnastics, circus aerial, and cheerleading. Her interest in working with performers grew when she was the appointed Physiotherapist for Team England Adaptive Ability Cheerleaders in 2019-2020. She recently completed the specialist Performing Arts Medicine MSc Programme at UCL to enhance her skills when working with elite performers and providing specialist health services to this population.
