Our approach to: Acrolab 2023 resources

We recently returned from a fantastic week at 101 Outdoor Arts: National Centre for Arts in Public Space where we hosted our Acrolab 2023!

The Acrolab was a week-long residency with women and non-binary acrobatic performers, with the aim of developing the practice of acrobalance and group acrobatics in terms of access, inclusion and excellence.

Here, we are sharing our Code of Conduct and the outline of our Inclusive and Supportive Approach in the Training Space with the rest of the circus and creative industries. These documents were written specifically for the Acrolab and are evolving, work-in-progress ‘living’ documents. We aim to be responsive always so welcomed feedback and discussion throughout the week to make further changes to them. We are also very happy to receive further feedback and have continued discussion around these – please get in touch if you have any thoughts!

Thank you to Revel Puck Circus and the Royal Court whose codes of conduct we used as references when crafting our documents, as well as Daryl & Co who have strongly influenced our inclusive approach. We hope in turn that other companies can take our resources, make them their own and share them on further.

We mentioned these at the Outdoor Arts UK conference in Bradford this year and there was some keen interest in it, so please do share this blog with your network.
