24 Dec Looking Back At Mimbre’s 2024
It’s time for a super quick round-up of Mimbre’s year before we charge on through to 2025.
First of all we’d like to celebrate our shows!
In 2024 we had three shows on the road:
Our new production Weight(less) – “Such a wonderful show, loved how the personality from characters was shown. I wasn’t expecting to have it engage with my own emotions to the extent it did and I felt quite reflective after. Absolutely wonderful show!”
The final (maybe!) year for our crowd pleaser Lifted
And our co-production with Daryl & Co, Look Mum, No Hands! on its third successive year of touring with lots of dates in Europe
In total we were seen by 18,000 audience members!
Throughout 2024 we stayed in touch with our community.
Our youth programme included a diverse group of young people from Hackney from ages 5 to 15 who enjoyed classes, performances and trips: “She is quite shy in public sessions, but I feel this class is helping her grow in confidence. Thank you!”
We ran masterclasses in Sweden and London, workshops at The Roundhouse and the Young V&A, lectured at the National Centre for Circus Arts, organised a Safer Spaces training day with sector colleagues, ran an acrobatic laboratory (Acrolab) with 101 Outdoor Arts, had more than 60 acrobatic training sessions outside rehearsal and residency weeks, were part of academic research presented at the Performing Arts in Medicine Conference, attended a myriad array of networking groups and meetings, and more…
We also worked with a huge number of terrific freelancers – thank you all!
2024 was a fantastic year for Mimbre on screen. We were part of lots of exciting projects on screens small and very very large.
Look Mum, Let’s Talk About Disability! – a series of short films created for social media by Daryl & Co responding to common questions around disability asked by young people
We were in an episode of the BBC’s Malory Towers – still available on iPlayer
We were part of two thrilling short films by designer Shona Heath – The Still Life of a Peach which was part of Frieze London, and…
The Glass Hermit – seen on the big screen in Piccadilly Circus, Times Square and LA Moxy
Lastly we said goodbye to the Mimbre van – faithful servant for 21 years.
Looking forward to 2025, we’re excited about Joint Artistic Director Lina Johansson movement directing on RISE on 10th and 11th January, the opening event of Bradford 2025.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout the year. Our funders, Arts Council England, Hackney Council, Tesco Groundwork, Arsenal Foundation, Golsoncott Foundation and Sylvia Waddilove Foundation, our wonderful donors and our extremely supportive Board of Trustees.
Love from Silvia, Lina, Lissy and Brilla
