06 Apr Mimbre’s World
Follow us into a world where magic, mystery and adventure reach out into the every day, and where nothing – not even gravity – can hold us down.
Featured performer and co-founder of Mimbre Silvia Fratelli guides us on this beautiful journey through the woods, ballrooms and darkest corners of Mimbre’s breath-taking world. Featuring choreography by Lina Johansson, design by Loren Elstein and a soundtrack composed by Quinta, Mimbre’s World is a beautiful film that reminds us of the strangeness and beauty of the lives we live.
Co-founder, choreographer and Mimbre’s World creator Lina Johansson says:
Mimbre celebrates the impossible, using human pyramids and theatrical tricks as metaphors for how we can connect with others and create beauty between us. We wanted to create a short film celebrating this world, sharing our dreams and visually celebrate our trust and our belief that together we’re stronger. The project was supposed to be more of an edit of archive footage, but with film-makers Arthur Le Fol and Craig Billingham it took on a life of its own and became a short film in its own right. Working on it from the first step of our imagination, to the building of inspiration, mood and story boards, gruesome filming schedule and a fantastic team of collaborators, this project in itself was the proof of why we should always keep on following our dreams.
The performers in the film are all amazing circus artists in their own right as well as Mimbre’ collaborators and the young people featuring comes from Mimbre’s Youth Programme in Hackney. Amazing designer Loren Elstein has created a poetical, ephemeral and fantastical production design, accompanied by an enchanting original score by Quinta.
