Hackney Activities

This Saturday, May 25th, the Dalston Children's Festival will be launched, a new community-led festival that promotes fun and free things to do for children and young people, all over Dalston, all summer long (25th May – 31st Aug 2013). It is a celebration of the extraordinary creativity of Dalston’s community and the resourcefulness and imagination of local people who are committed to making Dalston a great place for children and young people all year round. Mimbre is very happy to be part of this exciting new festival in Dalston!

We had a wonderful time at our first Collective Movement Festival the weekend before Easter and thank everybody, especially all our young people, the volunteers and the numerous audience members who together helped make it such a great success! Also, we'd like to thank everybody for the nice feedback and supporting our aim to raise more money over the coming months to secure the continuation of our acrobatics youth classes.

We at mimbre are so proud of our youth group, the Step Up group, who delivered a fantastic performance last Friday at Hackney Empire as part of the Discover Young Hackney Festival! VERY WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!! Below is a sneak review of the last instructions and back-stage preparations for the performance and the dress rehearsal on stage!

Hey mimbre followers, We had a fantastic weekend with mimbre's young company - the Step Up group. They spent the entire weekend working hard to create a performance for the Discover Young Hackney - Festival opening ceremony at the Hackney Empire this Friday (1st of February). The show has flips, twirls and lifts. Have a look at some of our pictures from the weekend:

Between September 2011 and December 2012 our education programme has been made possible by the generous support of the Transformers Grant Programme and Southern Housing Group. Now the Transformers grant has come to an end, we’d like to thanks our funders for their support. Together we have achieved the following: We ran 189 workshops encouraging physical and creative involvement, including 170 weekly street dance and acrobatics classes, and 19 taster sessions and family fun days. In total 495 people participated in one of our activities and 133 young people came to sessions on a regular basis 16 participants took part in the Step-Up group and created ‘Origin: London’, which was performed at 5 different events as part of the Cultural Olympiad and was seen by approximately 7000 audience members.
