Young People’s Activities

Over the half term Mimbre had lots of different activities and projects taking place: Mimbre Youth (The Step Up Group) started working on the "Riot Offspring" performance with Sadler’s Wells Theatre. We also ran street dance, acrobatics and choreography workshops to 13-19 years old as part of Discover Young Hackney and five of our young people took part in the Nation Youth Circus Event with Circus Space.

Classes for Young People Mimbre offers classes for young people in Hackney to learn acrobatics and street dance in a safe, fun and supportive environment with professional artists.  Scroll down for full details! The classes are free but you need to book a place as there are limited...

We at mimbre are so proud of our youth group, the Step Up group, who delivered a fantastic performance last Friday at Hackney Empire as part of the Discover Young Hackney Festival! VERY WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!! Below is a sneak review of the last instructions and back-stage preparations for the performance and the dress rehearsal on stage!

Hey mimbre followers, We had a fantastic weekend with mimbre's young company - the Step Up group. They spent the entire weekend working hard to create a performance for the Discover Young Hackney - Festival opening ceremony at the Hackney Empire this Friday (1st of February). The show has flips, twirls and lifts. Have a look at some of our pictures from the weekend:

Between September 2011 and December 2012 our education programme has been made possible by the generous support of the Transformers Grant Programme and Southern Housing Group. Now the Transformers grant has come to an end, we’d like to thanks our funders for their support. Together we have achieved the following: We ran 189 workshops encouraging physical and creative involvement, including 170 weekly street dance and acrobatics classes, and 19 taster sessions and family fun days. In total 495 people participated in one of our activities and 133 young people came to sessions on a regular basis 16 participants took part in the Step-Up group and created ‘Origin: London’, which was performed at 5 different events as part of the Cultural Olympiad and was seen by approximately 7000 audience members.

The short performances last week were brilliant and a perfect way to end a fantastic term.  The young people showed off the skills and moves they have been working on over the term. They all received certificates and lots of cake. Altogether around 90 members of the community, friends and family came to support mimbre’s youth groups and watched the shows. Everyone had fun and had lots of positive feedback about the term and the performances. So well done everyone!
