The short performances last week were brilliant and a perfect way to end a fantastic term. The young people showed off the skills and moves they have been working on over the term. They all received certificates and lots of cake. Altogether around 90 members of the community, friends and family came to support mimbre’s youth groups and watched the shows. Everyone had fun and had lots of positive feedback about the term and the performances. So well done everyone!
Mimbre are inviting applications from aspiring performers who are interested in joining our professional development programme. Traineeships are available for London-based 18-25 year olds, who are able to commit to our Acrobatics and Acrobalance Masterclass on 12 and 13 January, and regular training on Tuesday evenings between 15 January and end of April 2013.
Hello mimbre friends and family,
The winter term is coming to an end. All at mimbre have had a fantastic time thanks to the wonderful young people we get to work with. We would like to celebrate the term by sharing with you what the young people have created.
Not only within the arts world there is a continuous discussion about the impact of the arts, their "purpose" and "use" for a society or an individual as well as about the ways to measure this and to quantify an obviously very personal experience. We would like to extend this discussion to you out there and collect information on the impact that our work has... on individuals, on communities and on the wider circus and performing arts sector alike. This is not just out of curiosity and the wish to interact with our audiences, but serves a specific purpose: It will help us to continue making work that you enjoy!
As followers of our work might know, mimbre offer masterclasses in acrobatics, acrobalance and healthy physicality as part of our participation programme.
Our next 2-day masterclass will take place in January 2013 at the Roundhouse in London focusing on the discipline of acrobatics and acrobalance.
I am 10 years old and I have been in mimbre for 4 years since I was 6. It has been very fun and has taught me amazing skills since I first started. I have also taken part in the Step-Up group for 1 year. Both groups have helped me with confidence when performing and made me a better street dancer and acrobat.
Loads of people from my school go to the groups so it feels like it’s one big family.
The teachers for the groups I go to are: Lina, Natasha, Frank, and our assistant/ education officer Inni.
I really like taking part in mimbre because it’s exciting, it teaches me new things and its REALLY fun.
